I had to teach myself Adobe Illustrator after our graphic design person left; it suddenly became my job to build our Architecture Billings Index infographic every month. Though it's not the most intuitive software in the world, I was able to quickly understand the nuts and bolts of how it works and create a great monthly graphic.
It is not the easiest software to learn from scratch; anyone familiar with the Adobe suite will get it quickly, but I am a writer by trade so it took me a little to merely find out where all the functions were. This is understandable, though, because it's a powerful tool aimed at those who understand how the Adobe apps all work (and how to design).
We needed to create a monthly infographic in-house, displaying all the details of how the architecture profession has risen or fallen from a business perspective. This was perfect for that; once we set up a template and I personally understand all the Adobe commands and where everything was hiding, it was easy to update as needed. Our members love it too.
I love that Adobe has so many tutorials and it is easy to use for adults and kids alike. I like that there is more than one way to achieve similar results so that different users can find the best way and the most comfortable way to use it.
Some of the tools are difficult to understand and use It did take me a lot of practice to master the pen tool and understand masking.
I use Adobe Illustrator for personal illustration and use and in education. I teach students how to create logo design with it. It is a tremendous tool for logo design and fashion illustration.
Its a great way to make graphics for Websites.
it can be hard to use at first, but at the same time very easy once you play around with the tools.
making items that appear in the background.
When it comes to making a sketch or capture an idea, the quality and productivity can be found with "Illustrator", it is fantastic the amount of functions and finishing that I can achieve with all the options it offers, from filtering filters found in other tools adobe , to make shapes to taste that allow you to recreate forms, drawings, logos, models and much more, here you can achieve it. It's perfect for me, I just have it on all my devices and there I can work with all my resources integrated into the cloud.
During all this time Illustrator has notoriously improved its versions that previously left you in the middle of a project because its versions stopped and this was annoying, but now its auto-save engine and that remains in the cloud, is a point in favor that does not can be put aside, Adobe knew what all its users really required and has not given them.
We are a company with different demands within the design area and here I have the privilege of working with a very skilled dynamic team to work on our projects under an illustrator, it is essential, it is our weapon to face the challenges of our clients and we achieve high quality finishes , his brushes, game of shapes, points of anchors, fountains and panels of colors, represent everything an artist wants. I have been working with Illustrator for quite some time and could not find another product that gives me everything I can find in it.
I have found myself more accustomed to Illsutrator than the other Adobe products because I can use it for just about any of my needs. From photo editing and adjusting to layout design
Sometimes it freezes while working on a document
I am able to create social media graphics along with editing website design.
There is great versatility and support for the tools in AI.
For some, the learning curve may be a little steep, but it’s worth it!
Web and print design. Creativity can really be utilized with AI.
Illustrator provides the tools to create industry-standard vector based designs. There is literally no limit to what can be achieved using this program. I use this program in tandem with Adobe Photoshop to maximize my workflow. Illustrator generates professional graphics that can be used over a wide range of formats.
I think, as with other design-software programs, the learning curve is a negative. That being said, unlike Photoshop (which takes years to become proficient at), Illustrator can be used by a beginner effectively, albeit more simplistically. Adobe provides excellent tutorials for beginner thru advanced users. These tutorials are hands-on projects that walk the user through the steps, with clear concise directions and visual prompts. I often use these tutorials to brush up on the many facets of Illustrator that I might not use on a daily basis. When speaking about Illustrator to colleagues who are not familiar with the program, I highly recommend these tutorials.
As a graphic designer, I use Illustrator to create abstract branding designs are easily cross-platform for clients digital or print needs. Because Illustrator generates vector based drawings, clients are given clean, crisp artwork that can be interpolated without loss of resolution.
Creating vector images is the most useful purpose of this program to me. It's so easy to create ANYTHING you'd want for print material in high resolution, no matter how large it's going to be. Also, if I have a visual in my mind of what I want to create, I KNOW that I can do it using Illustrator. There aren't as many restrictions as there are on many other graphic design programs.
It is a bit difficult to learn. For the first month that I was using it, I felt like I had to watch at least 3 'how-to' videos on YouTube every time I wanted to create something. The price is really high; I have a license for this for my work computer through my employer, but I'd love to have it for my home computer as well - I just really can't justify the cost.
Adobe Illustrator has allowed me to create digital and print ads that look really good, and really attract potential customers.
What don't I like about Illustrator?! I use Illustrator on a daily basis, whether for work or creative aspirations out of the office. I love the ability to draw and creating vector based art right on the computer. Being able to use the iPad version of Illustrator has also allowed me to create even more elaborate work with my Apple Pencil which easily syncs right to the computer.
I don't love the blending features/how effects rasterize. Sometimes gradients and glows and such just render kind of weird and create banding which isn't desirable.
I use Illustrator for almost all my projects. Social media art, packaging, branding, logo design, posters, event art, seriously everything. I love that just the ability to create from scratch. It really let's you get creative as possible, starting from zero and creating something beautiful and effective.
As a studio artist, I find illustrator is the closest I can get to using a pencil and paper, aside from having a touch screen.
Nothing! It’s a learning curve, but once you get started things make sense very quickly
Having the ability to create completely original designs for our clients is a HUGE advantage over other options!
It has a more friendly interface than other graphic softwares like CorelDraw. Also, you can do many things from vector designs to banners and even animations with the help of its sisters; photoshop and after effects. Illustrator is a light software that doesn't hang my system.
Ever since I started using Illustrator there's only one issue of always crashing in its previous versions but on the later versions everything goes well
I have been able to design logos, banners, flyers for businesses and organizations. It has given a touch of professionalism to my work. People seems to wonder how my work is so different but they don't know the software is behind the inspiration.
You can do pretty much anything you want with this tool. I'm logged in currently on it, because all company designs, social media posts designs, paper print designs, ads etc are done with Illustrator. Illustrator connects incredibly well with the other suite products from Adobe and its a must have.
I wish sometime in the future, illustrator added even more photoshop capabilities. I noticed the resize tool for photos added to Illustrator, we need more, just basic tools so we aren't jumping so much back and forth.
We can create high-quality designs for all our needs (social media, web design, printed, ads, etc). We would need a full-time designer to do all that, but we can handle it within the office staff because the tool is so great.
At first, I was overwhelmed with using the software, but after spending about 30 minutes sorting through the features, I found it incredibly easy to use. As someone with limited design skills, Adobe Illustrator made me feel like I could start my own graphic design business. I was able to create beautiful material for customers in a matter of minutes. It offers many features in an easy to use platform.
Nothing, I generally feel that adobe illustrator is simple and easy to use.
We were able to offer unique customer signs, banners, cards, and invitations within minutes vs using a 3rd party out of office service.
The simple yet powerful tools of the Adobe illustrator makes a great user environment and user experience. The tools are very easy to understand and even a new user can grasp those very easily. And the performance of the software is also really good. It does not require a huge memory capacity and runs very smoothly. Accepting a large number of file types is also a huge plus point.
The customizability of the tool bars and user interface could be improved.
Opening, viewing and editing large number of vector graphics file types are super easy with Adobe illustrator. And the end products can be exported as pdf which is very convenient to use with other platforms.
I work as a developer and have to use Illustrator to make and edit svg icons and images on a regular basis. This application is amazing! After I learned how to use it I regularly make this my go to to edit, recolor, resize, and easily design my icons for websites.
It definitely took me a while to learn all the ins and outs of this giant application. My most used tool is the recoloring tools. My suggestion is to lookup tutorials and videos online and just take your time. The more you use it the more you'll learn and the faster you'll get with your edits.
We use Illustrator primarily to edit our SVG icons and images used on websites. We were originally using static images through Photoshop for our small image assets and this ended up bogging our server memory down to the point that we regularly had small websites with over 1.5GB file sizes! It was crazy.
I love that I can quickly layout a mock-up, flyer, poster board, and even quick presentation slide with Illustrator. So easy to manipulate and control the art board
I wish there were more image altering options so that I could do most projects entirely within illustrator, as now I toggle between it and photoshop
Quick design layouts for product development and advertisements. It’s so easy to put a design direction that’s in my mind onto a page
I like that I can use it to make edits to artwork files to get projects turned around more quickly and rather than having to wait for an artwork specialist.
It is sometimes frustrating to select objects when they are grouped or in clipping masks.
I manage print production requirements for multiple international customers, and I use Adobe Illustrator to view and make minor edits to artwork files. I am by no means an artwork expert, but I have learned to make minor changes so I can turn around projects more quickly than waiting for the specialists to make the edits.
I like that Adobe Illustrator can work with very large paper sizes, without having to span across multiple artboards like QuarkXPress used to require.
I think there has been little progress made on Adobe Illustrator with new features. I would like to see some Artificial Intelligence add-ons, like when Adobe Photoshop got the Content Aware feature.
I am responsible for preparing artwork for large format prints, which involves printing onto large canvasses. Adobe Illustrator works perfectly for this task, as it allows large documents to be created, so I have no problem using this for A0 artboards.
I personally like the text flow feature best, that lets you flow text from multiple text boxes throughout a document.
I dislike that it is difficult to get started with Adobe Illustrator, and that it took me significant time to get into it.
I have been introduced to Adobe Illustrator while working at Ouch My Ego for updating page layouts with new copy. I enjoy using it and help out at the office when we have tight deadlines, and enter the new copy directly into the page layouts before approval.
I like the best that Adobe Illustrator has the most detailed typography tools out of any software I have used.
I dislike the new fonts in Adobe Creative Cloud that are pushed onto Adobe Illustrator, when I don't necessarily want these fonts.
I use Adobe Illustrator to work on single page layouts and fine vector art. In particular, I have benefited from Adobe Illustrator's fine typography tools that aid me in arranging type in an exacting way with pleasing leading.
