SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) is a part of the TCP/IP protocol layer utilized to send and receive emails between the client and email servers or networks. Email application services use this protocol, and people commonly combine it with others like IMAP and POP3. SMTP was first launched in 1981 by Jon Postel, who is known as “the god of the Internet.”
